Using The Moon To Create Your Dream Life

Astrology has been a really trendy subject for the past few years. There is a lot of talk about new moons, full moons, sun signs and the archetypal energies attached to that. It's a lot of fun to think about, but how can you use it to really make changes in your life and create the life of your dreams?

Astrology is an ancient practice that began in India. It has been adopted and changed quite a bit from its ancient form but can still be a useful tool for us to use to set goals and maintain them over periods of time.

A simple way you can begin practicing and using astrology for your benefit is by keeping track of the cycles of the moon. The moon goes through several different phases over a 28 day period. The two main signs that astrologers talk about are the new and full moons.

The new and full moons are two different phases of the moon that are the most visually notable. The new moon Is when the moon is black in the sky. The full moon is when the entire moon is lit up in the sky.

Each moon cycle brings a different energy depending on what sign it is located in, but that is a different conversation for a different blog post. Even with the constantly changing energies, we can bring the same ideas to the moon phases each month.

Today, July 17th is a new moon in Cancer. So how can you use this new moon to set goals and begin crafting your life?

The new moon is usually thought of energetically as a time of new beginnings. A time to really sit with yourself and ask what do you want to focus on bringing into your life for the next 28 days? This is a good time to sit with your list of long and short term goals. How can you accomplish a short term goal in the next month? How can you break down a long term goal into shorter pieces and what can you do in the next 28 days?

For the new moon, think about the flow of the tides. Energetically it is when the tide has been low, and is beginning to return to the high tide. We are pulling in, calling in, drawing in what we desire.

New Moon Ritual:

On the night of the new moon, or a night around the new moon ( really listen to your intuition and give yourself the time to do these rituals when it feels good in your body. The more you begin to listen to your intuition and your body the easier it will be.) there are a few things you can do as a ritual for setting intentions, and calling in manifestations/ prayers.

  1. Digital Detox and Journaling: Disconnect from technology, grab pen and paper, and write down your intentions for the month ahead. Visualize positive changes you want to manifest.

  2. Mindful Meditation: Find a comfy spot, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. Use an app or playlist for guided meditation, cultivating a sense of peace and renewal.

  3. Nature Connection: Spend time outdoors in a serene environment. Connect with the night sky, the moon's presence, and let nature restore your spirit.

  4. Declutter and Energy Cleanse: Tidy up your physical space, remove clutter, and create a pleasant atmosphere. Visualize letting go of old patterns and negative energy.

  5. Self-Reflection with Oracle Cards: Use an oracle card deck to gain guidance and clarity. Shuffle the cards, ask for wisdom, and trust your intuition to interpret the messages.

Remember, these rituals can be adapted to suit your preferences. Set clear intentions, engage in self-reflection, and embrace the natural rhythms of the universe.

Allow yourself to live in these intentions and new goals for the next 14-15 days. On the full moon you will get the opportunity to check in again, reflect on what is working, what isn't working and release anything that isnt feeling good to you.

We will talk more about a full moon ritual for the next full moon on August 1st.

For now, do this ritual in a way that works for you, allow yourself to feel deeply and dream big. Sit with this energy for the next two weeks.

When we use the cycles of the moon to set goals and do self reflection we are connecting with nature. We are also connecting with the deepest parts of ourselves. When done consistently we are using the cycles of nature to create and maintain change in our lives. Setting goals is great, and something a lot of us are good at, but maintaining them and not forgetting about them can be tricky, and using the cycles of the moon to check in every two weeks can help us create lasting change.

Whether you're a spiritual girly, or a secular girly, connecting with nature and using the cycles of nature to create and achieve your goals can be powerful. Give it a try and see how it feels.
